Restoring and Revitalising An Amenity Woodland: A Recent Beechwood Tree Care Project
At Beechwood Tree Care, we are passionate about trees and preserving the natural beauty around us. This motivates us in every project and ensures we take extra care when handling significant landscapes, vulnerable trees, and public areas.
In one of our latest projects, our meticulous attention to detail and precision was required as we handled an amenity woodland.
This beautiful landscape is home to a variety of tree species and wildlife creatures, meaning it needs to be well-managed to maintain its role in the ecosystem. However, it had become overrun with invasive species and could not be safely accessed by the public.
For this post, we are taking you through the process of restoring this amenity woodland and the level of care you can expect when working with the Beechwood Tree Care team.
A Careful Balance: Native Flora And Human Access
This project required a careful balance to be met to ensure that the amenity woodland was healthy, attractive and accessible. This is a prime walking spot and can be a great environment for people of all ages to enjoy the outdoors, but the invasive species and lack of pathways prevented it from being used.
While preserving the health and beauty of trees is our primary concern at Beechwood Tree Care, this project required something else too. Working in this amenity woodland required us to deliver a careful balance between restoring and supporting the natural ecosystem, complete with native plants and wildlife, and human accessibility.
We not only tended to the plants, clearing, pruning and removing any invasive species that were interrupting the natural appeal of the space but also created a natural pathway so the public could enjoy this space too.
Tree Removal And Stump Grinding
A large portion of this project was focused on removing the invasive laurel which has infiltrated many areas of the woodland and was now competing with other plants and trees for nutrients, space and light.
Amenity woodlands are beautiful landscapes and are home to a variety of tree species to create something truly unique. However, this can become an issue when some of the species are invasive, like the laurel trees in this woodland, and interrupt the whole ecosystem.
Using our precision and unique tools, we removed the laurel trees. This not only allowed other native trees and flora to thrive but also opened up the landscape significantly to create a brighter space.
When working with Beechwood Tree Care, you can rest assured that all areas of tree removal are covered as we also offer stump grinding and site clearance services. Once the laurel trees had been reduced and removed, our team carefully ground out the stumps.
We are committed to delivering sustainable environmental care and work to deliver the best results for local landscapes. Once the stumps had been ground down, we used the chippings as a natural mulch to provide fertile soil for new plantings across the woodland.
Additional Sustainability Steps
At Beechwood Tree Care, we believe in the power of nature and work to support this across all of our services. Not only are our methods as environmentally friendly as possible, but we aim to reuse materials wherever possible.
Alongside the natural mulch made from stump arisings, we also kept some logs from the tree removal process to create eco piles. Eco piles are made from stacked tree logs, which are left to naturally decompose in the woodland.
These decaying logs are a highly effective and supportive microhabitat for insects and fungi, helping to support even the smallest forms of wildlife in the woodland for many years. Once the logs have completely decomposed, their nutrients go back into the soil to create fertile land for new plants.
This cyclical pattern is something that nature does wonderfully on its own organically, but additional help is required in vulnerable areas. With our knowledge of trees and wildlife, as well as our commitment to conservation, the Beechwood Tree Care team have made a lasting impact on this amenity woodland with our careful solutions.
Encouraging Cohabitation: Woodchip Pathways and Walking Trails
This amenity woodland is a stunning landscape and one that should be seen by as many people as possible. In this project, we not only cared for the trees and wildlife but also for local people who wanted to experience the beauty of nature and witness a range of healthy native plants.
Using woodchips from the remaining logs that were left over from our eco piles, the Beechwood Tree Care team created a fun and natural pathway through the woodland to encourage more people to get outdoors. This pathway not only looks great in the natural setting, but the woodchips will not interfere with the ongoing work within the ecosystem as plants die and new seeds grow.
We carefully weaved this pathway through the amenity woodland so walkers can get a great experience and see all kinds of local wildlife, while also keeping out of the way of the newly planted areas we will continue to work on.
These pathways lead through the woodland, allowing people to see all kinds of trees, native plants and the two new ponds that were crafted by our team throughout the duration of this project.
Trust Beechwood Tree Care To Make A Lasting Impact
Due to the precision and skill needed for this kind of project, it is not something that your average tree surgeon can do. However, our team thrives on the challenge and is proud to offer such an extensive range of solutions across the region.
Our work on this amenity woodland has been ongoing and will continue to ensure the environment thrives in all seasons. Our team have gotten very familiar with the land over time and will continue to support the needs of the ecosystem.
At this point in the journey, our precision and commitment to conservation have restored this densely overgrown woodland into a vibrant, thriving environment that is suitable for people of all ages to enjoy. We have cultivated habitats for all kinds of wildlife and supported native plants to thrive with our tree removal, planting, and stump grinding services.
Beechwood Tree Care been present in this landscape for a long time and while we have made a huge impact, our work is not over. We will continue to check in on this landscape and deliver any care it requires to support local wildlife and vegetation.
