Tree Felling Methods
Fell From The Ground
This process, often referred to as straight felling, involves the tree being felled using a precise method.
A directional sink cut is made first, followed by a back cut but leaving some holding wood, known as a hinge, which guides the tree to fall in the desired direction.
Section Felling
This process involves working at height, using a mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) or climbing, to fell the tree in sections when straight felling is not possible.
Section felling is a skilled process that appears straightforward when performed by an experienced tree surgeon and allows a tree to be dismantled in confined areas such as a back garden, without damaging surrounding obstacles.
Section Felling Using Lowering Techniques
Often referred to as ‘Rigging’ this allows a tree to be removed in a very controlled manner, without allowing sections to freefall to the ground and is therefore an ideal method for avoiding damage to anything under the tree.
Rigging requires a highly skilled, experienced and suitably qualified team.
Speed Lining
Basically we set up a zip wire and use this as a highly effective and efficient method to move sections away from/over obstacles or targets, landing them in a safe drop zone.
Beechwood has highly experienced and skilled teams who make speed lining look simple.
Crane Assisted Felling
Using our ‘Roto Tree Cutter’ or a mobile crane, sections are expertly cut and lifted clear.
When it absolutely must go right.
