The Magic of Coppicing: A Story of Regrowth with Beechwood Tree Care
At Beechwood Tree Care, we are committed to delivering the best levels of tree care and management not just for our clients, but the environment too.
Our team is passionate about trees and understands their vital role in the ecosystem, which is why we strive to provide long-lasting health to everyone. Our tree services and treatments are not just a one-off solution, but instead an ongoing plan to ensure our environment continues to thrive and is supported by the natural beauty of these magnificent plants.
In this post, we are taking you on a journey of transformation to demonstrate how committed we are to delivering long-term results. Neil will showcase a willow tree coppicing job we completed back in 2021 and how the landscape is looking now, so you can see whether our work truly is effective and the right solution for you.
A Peek Into Our 2021 Willow Tree Coppicing Mission
Back in 2021, the Beechwood Tree Care team were called to re-coppice a group of willow trees which were overgrown the field boundary.
Coppicing is similar to another form of tree reduction we offer, pollarding, but there are some differences in the way the landscape appears after. While both coppicing and pollarding revolve around cutting back trees, so they are easier to manage, healthier and safer, coppicing removes more of the tree.
While many people are uncertain about pollarding because the impact can be quite stark, coppicing takes things to a whole new level by cutting trees down to ground level. This does have a drastic impact on the landscape, but is essential for healthy regrowth of trees and is an ideal long-term plan for environments which need additional care.
The willows on this field boundary may not have grown back to their full height in the past few years, but the regrowth benefits are already clear. If we fast forward a decade, most people will not even be able to tell that these trees were coppiced in the first place because the regrowth will be so dense and tall.
The Benefits Of Willow Tree Coppicing: Why We Did It
Like pollarding, the primary benefit of coppicing is the regrowth that it supports. However, this is not the only advantage of using such a drastic solution for trees, as this particular method plays a big role in supporting biodiversity.
At Beechwood Tree Care, we are committed to delivering the best results for your trees and landscape. We operate using sustainable practices wherever possible and will always work to ensure the landscape is in a better condition than we found it.
Back in 2021, when we first performed the willow tree coppicing, the waste material was not discarded.
During this process, our team collected and carefully stacked the remaining wood and materials from the willow trees on site, creating what is affectionately known as an ‘eco pile’. This eco pile acts as a home for the smaller, and often overlooked, members of the ecosystem and provides them with a safe, natural habitat.
How Trees Support Essential Ecosystems
Decaying wood is a vital tool for our ecosystems as it creates habitats and food for insects, with many species thriving on decaying wood.
Instead of throwing the removed wood away following the willow tree coppicing and causing more damage to the environment, our team created a safe eco habitat for some of the most essential but neglected critters.
With this small decision, we are actively supporting the cycle of biodiversity and extending the benefits of our work for many years.
Beechwood’s Long-Term Vision
This is what Beechwood Tree Care is about – delivering fantastic results that stand the test of time. We work to deliver the best care of your trees, while also supporting our natural environment.
Our willow tree coppicing from 2021 stands tall and proud. Looking at the willow trees now, there is barely a hint of the transformation they underwent. As well as seeing exceptional regrowth, our sustainable commitment to creating eco piles and habitats from waste material continues to support vital ecosystems.
Working with Beechwood Tree Care means looking beyond the instant results and doing what is best for our landscapes. The fruits of our labour, as shown by Neil in the video, continue to demonstrate the power of coppicing many years later as well as our commitment as a tree care company.
We are not just dedicated to delivering exceptional tree care, including tree surgery, tree removal and stump grinding, but to sustainable practices as well to ensure our work leaves a good impression.
